Sessile liquid drops damp vibrating structures

چکیده
In this study, we explore the vibration damping characteristics of singular liquid drops varying viscosity and surface tension resting on a millimetric cantilever. Cantilevers are displaced 0.6 mm at their free end, 6% length, allowed to vibrate freely. Such ringdown causes deform, or slosh, which dissipates kinetic energy via viscous dissipation within drop through contact line friction. Damping by sloshing is dependent viscosity, tension, size, location. A solid weight with same mass as experimental used compare against imposed liquids, thereby accounting for other sources. Neither most nor least studied greatest cantilever motion. Instead, intermediate strike effective balance internal dissipative capacity. Very thin cantilevers express more than one dominant frequency erratically, often shifting phase, presenting challenge quantification damping. Finally, introduce new dimensionless group aimed incorporating all salient variables our cantilever-drop system.

Substrate constraint modifies the Rayleigh spectrum of vibrating sessile drops.
In this work, we study the resonance behavior of mechanically oscillated, sessile water drops. By mechanically oscillating sessile drops vertically and within prescribed ranges of frequencies and amplitudes, a rich collection of resonance modes are observed and their dynamics subsequently investigated. We first present our method of identifying each mode uniquely, through association with spher...
متن کاملRelaxation of nonspherical sessile drops towards equilibrium.
We present a theoretical study related to a recent experiment on the coalescence of sessile drops. The study deals with the kinetics of relaxation towards equilibrium, under the action of surface tension, of a spheroidal drop on a flat surface. For such a nonspherical drop under partial wetting conditions, the dynamic contact angle varies along the contact line. We propose a new nonlocal approa...
متن کاملQuasistatic relaxation of arbitrarily shaped sessile drops.
We study a spontaneous relaxation dynamics of arbitrarily shaped liquid drops on solid surfaces in the partial wetting regime. It is assumed that the energy dissipated near the contact line is much larger than that in the bulk of the fluid. We have shown rigorously in the case of quasi-static relaxation using the standard mechanical description of dissipative system dynamics that the introducti...
متن کاملOn Modeling Evaporation of Sessile Drops
Evaporating drops and thin films have numerous applications, from nanometric photoresist films in semiconductor applications to small sessile drops used for analysis of DNA microarrays [1]. Evaporating sessile drops are particularly interesting due to nonuniform drop thickness and the presence of contact lines (separating liquid, gas and solid phase). These factors may lead to nonuniform evapor...
متن کاملFour - phase merging in sessile compound drops
We consider the statics of compound droplets made of two immiscible fluids on a rigid substrate, in the limit when gravity is dominated by capillarity. In particular, we show that the merging of four phases along a single contact line is a persistent and robust phenomenon from a mechanical and thermodynamic perspective; it can and does occur for a range of interfacial energies and droplet volum...
